There is a great deal going on at the Masonic Hall during the summer recess, and Brethren and Companions returning in the late summer will see the results of these changes. Despite the setback with getting a new carpet for the main Lodge Room, another one has been ordered from a different company and it is expected that this will be laid sometime in August. It is mainly due to the efforts of David Clifford that this is now about to happen and we should all be grateful to him. The floor and the seating will also be renovated in part. Next week work will start on taking down the chimney – it is now redundant and serves no purpose other than to be a threat to the rest of the roof!! Downstairs in the main hall, renovation work is to be carried out on the carpet and the dance floor. There will also be some work done to upgrade the entrance on the Ellesmere Street side of the Hall. This will be welcomed by us all, as it is a little drab, to say the least! In addition, we are to have toilet facilities for the disabled installed downstairs. |
On the social side, I went along on Wednesday 15th June with the Vice Chairman to support the Group Bowling at the Botanical Gardens in Atherton. After appalling weather during the day, the evening was much brighter and the event was held uninterrupted by the weather. This just shows the power of prayer, Brethren!! The event this year was won by our APGM, and, although I know that many will be sceptical about whether the game was rigged or not, I can tell you that he was a worthy winner, beating the Group Secretary in the final. On Thursday 2nd June a delegation from the Group went to Age Concern to present the Leigh Office with a cheque for £1000. This charity was chosen by Atherton Lodge as the recipient of this year’s local worthy cause. We were very warmly received by the Manager and his staff and gained some genuine insight into the vast range of their work and assistance to some of the most vulnerable of our community. |

It is evident that, after a very busy season, there is still much going on and a lot of Brethren are putting in time and effort to ensure that our Hall and its facilities remain at a very high standard. I am deeply grateful to all who contribute so freely on our behalf. I do hope that everyone in the Leigh Group has a very restful and enjoyable summer break with family and friends and I look forward to renewing old acquaintances in the early autumn.
